Scott McDonald: My pal Lenny can put the heart back into Celtic

Scott McDonald was one of seven players shown the door during Mowbray's disastrous cull and yesterday the Middlesbrough striker was hardly shocked to learn the man who moved him on had now left the building for the final time, hot on the heels of one last final spineless capitulation at St Mirren. It's fair to say, in fact, McDonald saw this messy ending coming a mile off. But he's just as certain that in appointing Lennon as caretaker boss, chief executive Peter Lawwell has just pulled off a masterstroke.

McDonald was part of the Gordon Strachan side that two years ago came back from the brink to rattle off seven straight SPL wins and lift a third successive league crown. That run coincided with Lennon's return to the club he loves after a six-month stint at Nottingham Forest. McDonald insists it was no coincidence.
Now the former Parkhead captain is to be given first crack at fixing Mowbray's muddle and McDonald is backing the Northern Irishman to have an immediate impact.
