David Beckham

In the news today England will miss Beckham's leadership:The England squad is going to miss David Beckham, out at least six months due to surgery on his torn Achilles' tendon. They'll miss his deadly crosses and bending free kicks, but only in marginal sense, as he was not pegged to be a starter. His absence will be felt more on the spiritual end.

For all of his wealth, celebrity lifestyle and flair, Beckham is one of the most dedicated athletes in the sport, a team player of great pride and humility. This would have been his fourth World Cup, and he played 115 games for England (17 goals) over a brilliant career. Coach Fabio Capello was counting on the 34-year-old veteran to soothe the tensions surrounding John Terry, whose well-publicized philandering not only cost Terry a friendship with teammate Wayne Bridge, but forced Bridge's bitter withdrawal from the team.

March Madness Betting Strategies: Reseeding the Brackets

March Madness:If Las Vegas was in charge of March Madness the brackets would look a lot different. Oddsmakers have always learned to avoid the names on the front of the jerseys when it comes time to rank teams and adjust point spreads
The latest News the NCAA Tournament Selection Committee has an almost impossible job to make everyone happy, make attractive matchups, keep top-ranked teams close to home and avoid conference rematches. That being said, because of the stringent requirements the seeds the tournament committee has in place do not matchup with the best teams in the region.

ESPN analysts make 2010 tournament picks.

First step in the process, get your 2010 NCAA tournament printable bracket so you can start filling it out with your picks.  Next step, either analyse the teams based on games you've watched or start choosing those teams you like.  You could also just randomly pick teams, but pay attention to seedings.  For example, it's very rare and unlikely a 1 seed will lose in its first game.  It's possible for a 2, but highly unlikely.  After that it's anyone's guess.  Of course no team is truly a lock, but many experts are picking Kansas and Kentucky in the final game.  Some experts are picking all four of the #1 seeds to make it to the Final Four in Indianapolis this year.  That's never a given, but it's possible.  Choosing the right upset spoiler teams can go a long way towards winning an office pool.

Many people this year feel Kansas is a safe bet to win it all, based on the fact they were the national champions several years ago.  They've got experience and seniors as well as top players at almost every position, making for a tough team.  Kentucky is also tough, but you can't count out Duke or Syracuse.  And there's always that potential spoiler team lurking in the NCAA tournament brackets.  You can learn more about some of the recent NCAA Bracket 2010 predictions here at ESPN analysts make 2010 tournament picks.

Honda Recalls

Honda Recalls:A part called a vehicle stability assist modulator should be modified on 344,000 Odysseys and 68,000 Element wagons from the 2007-2008 model years, Honda, Japan’s second-largest carmaker, said yesterday. The company is reviewing at least three reported crashes in which brakes were cited, none of which involved deaths, said Chris Martin, a spokesman.

The recall is Honda’s second of similar size in as many months. The Tokyo-based company said in February that 437,763 vehicles worldwide needed repairs to air bags that may deploy too forcefully. The industry faces added U.S. scrutiny after Toyota Motor Corp.’s global recalls of about 8 million vehicles for flaws linked to unintended acceleration.

Jerusalem, Israel

Jerusalem is a city of overwhelming emotions, a city that promises a religious and spiritual experience, excitement and pleasure, interesting tours and entertaining adventures. Here, alongside Jerusalem’s fascinating historic and archeological sites, there are amazingly modern tourist attractions for all lovers of culture, the arts, theater and music, architecture and gastronomic delights.Jerusalem is also very important to Christianity, as Jesus Christ lived and died here. The Christian quarter alone houses some 40 religious buildings (churches, monasteries and pilgrims’ hostels). One of the most prominent and important sites in the Christian quarter is the Via Dolorosa, the “Way of Sorrows,” Jesus’ final path, which according to Christian tradition led from the courthouse to Golgotha Hill, where he was crucified and buried. Many pilgrims come to Jerusalem to follow Jesus’ footsteps along a route that starts in the Muslim Quarter, at Lions’ Gate, and passes the 14 stations of the cross, ending at the Church of the Holy Sepulcher. Several of the most important Christian relics are housed in this church, including the anointing stone (on which Jesus’ body was laid before his burial) and Jesus’ grave. The Church of the Holy Sepulcher is a pilgrimage site for millions of Christians from all over the world.

St. Patrick Back In St. Patrick's Day!

St. Patrick Back In St. Patrick's Day!I can write this because I'm Irish. Or, more precisely, half-Irish. (My dad's family hails from County Wexford, if you're curious.)

Anyway, here goes: Put St. Patrick back in St. Patrick's Day.

Now, I'm not saying that you shouldn't fish around in your closet for your favorite Irish sweater on March 17; or that you shouldn't wear that shamrock tie you use only once a year; or that you shouldn't march in the big parade downtown; or that you shouldn't tuck into corned beef and cabbage with gusto; or that you shouldn't hoist a few green beers with your pals at a local Irish pub; or that you shouldn't scarf down green cupcakes, green milkshakes, or green anything, for that matter.

Tiger Woods Masters plan is good for golf

Tiger Woods Masters plan is good for golf but is it best for him? Tiger Woods, remember, hasn't played competitive golf in months. Talk about being in need of reps! Tiger isn't the best golfer on the planet because he's the most talented man in the field every week. Tiger's the best because his talent is buttressed by the greatest focus, which is brought about by the most legendary regimen of dedicated and purposeful practice. in the context of sports and people who revel in competition and athletic achievement, extraordinary news. That his first tournament back is the Masters is, well, odd. It's like Kobe or LeBron deciding to skip warm up games in March or April and just report to work for the playoffs. Skipping Arnold Palmer's Bay Hill, where a member of the Mount Rushmore of golf could put his arm around Tiger and help usher him back into the fray, is wasting an enormous resource of potential strength, not to mention goodwill.

The 48 Laws of Power

I want to live a life where I help people wherever and whenever I can, and to not be afraid to ask for help when I need it. I guess if that’s weak, it’s weak.
What’s disturbing is, I realize with a sort of horror that I know people who act exactly like that list. And they are successful. At least in some things.

With its haunting tone and Bach overtones, vocals by Gary Brooker, and unusual lyrics by Keith Reid, “A Whiter Shade of Pale” reached #1 in several countries when released in 1967. In the years since, it has become an enduring classic. In 2009 it was the most played song in public places in the UK, and the United Kingdom performing rights group Phonographic Performance Limited in 2004 recognized it as the most-played record by British broadcasting of the past 70 years. Also in 2004, Rolling Stone placed “A Whiter Shade of Pale” #57 on its list of the 500 Greatest Songs of All Time.

More than 900 recorded cover versions by other artists are known. The song has been included in many music compilations over the decades and has also been used in the soundtracks of numerous films, including The Big Chill, Purple Haze, Breaking the Waves, The Boat That Rocked and notably in Martin Scorsese’s segment of New York Stories.
